Content note: the linked original discusses self-harm and a suicidal crisis.
This first-person account describes a difficult summer at university, when academic demands, work and homesickness coincided with a serious decline in wellbeing. The writer describes hiding their distress before confiding in a friend.
Friends helped them attend counselling and later supported them in seeking further professional help. The account emphasises the importance of telling someone when things do not feel right.
The story includes an individual experience of medication. It should not be treated as advice to change or stop prescribed treatment; medication questions belong with the prescribing clinician.
