Having low self-esteem isn't a mental health problem in itself, but they are closely linked. If lots of things affect your self-esteem for a long time, this might lead to mental health problems (for example; depression or anxiety).

Some of the experiences of low self-esteem can be signs of a mental health problem, particularly if they last for a long time or affect your day-to-day life. For example:

Mr Jonathan Campbell (BA Hons, MSc), BPS, BACP, BAATN.

I am a qualified, certified Counsellor, specialising in Integrative Counselling. My therapeutic approach to each individual client is to bring together different elements of specific therapies such as Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Psychodynamic, Person-Centred, Humanistic Approach and Mindfulness. There is no single approach that can treat an individual in all situations. I take the view that each person needs to be considered and Integrative Therapy techniques must be tailored to his or her personal needs and circumstances.
I have been working as a personal Therapist for over 10 years, working with clients from the ages of 7 upwards. I have a Bachelor of Arts in Counselling (Integrative), MSc in Psychology and currently undertaking a Doctorate in Counselling Psychology. I have worked alongside the Metropolitan Police Service in a public protection role, offering support and guidance to perpetrators of sexual offences whilst holding them accountable for their behaviour and actions. Aiming to reduce isolation, emotional loneliness and reintegrate them back into society.
I have experience working with different cultural diversity, non-binary, asylum seekers, and diverse sexual backgrounds, I believe it is very important to have a wealth of experience working with difference and diversity to help decrease unpleasant symptoms and supporting their capacity to live happy and fulfilling lives. I have counselled and mentored with different organisations, working with children, adolescents, and young adults, that needed support with education, home life, personal issues or where at risk of school/social exclusion.
I also work with survivors of domestic abuse, perpetrates of domestic abuse, survivors of sexual abuse, historical sexual abuse, perpetrates of sexual abuse. I also have experience in working with PTSD, Depression, Anxiety Disorders, OCD, relationship problems, self-esteem problems, life changing problems, as well as trauma.
